Watercolor Negative Painting

Add Amazing Depth to Your Art

4 Week Session

Jan. 9th. 16th. 23rd. & 30th.  2023

Mondays 9:30 – 12 noon

Want to figure out how to add depth and contrast to your paintings?

Watercolor is versatile, portable, and vibrant. But when it comes to creating scenes with lots of depth and contrast, watercolor presents a unique challenge. The solution — it’s called watercolor negative painting. This technique is simple enough in concept, but it requires something of a learning curve. I’ll show you what you need to create depth with this watercolor technique, and what steps you need to take.

Essentially, negative painting is a technique where you outline a shape (like a tree, leaf, or mountain) and fade the paint around that shape, surrounding the shape with a darker color. It is called negative painting because you are working with negative space.

What’s needed – watercolor supplies and masking fluid.
